Russian River Valley Single Vineyard Night
[ March 20, 2012 2:00 am to July 19, 2012 9:30 pm. ] Sloane
Thursday, July 19th, 7-9:30pm
VIP entry at 6pm
The Russian River Valley is synonymous with extraordinary wine including complex pinot noir, perfectly balanced zinfandel, succulent syrah and elegant chardonnay. On this special evening over 25 of the regions top wineries will descend upon Sloane – one of San Francisco’s most beautiful and hidden nightlife gems.
This one-of-a-kind tasting focuses exclusively on single-vineyard wines from world-class Russian River Valley wineries. While blended wines can be excellent, wineries typically save small-lot, single-vineyard designations to showcase their finest and most distinctive wines. You’ll have the unique opportunity to meet the actual winemakers and growers of these wines – a true rarity at most tasting events.
Complementing the wines will be single bites of food from local Russian River Valley producers and restaurants. DJ Sol will also be spinning his infectious grooves all night.
Rare silent auction items will also be on display benefiting the Russian River Valley Winegrowers continued work to preserve the region’s agriculture legacy through marketing and education.

THE SET-UP
If you’ve ever been to Spain or Portugal, you know just how magical both countries are. The people, food, culture, nightlife, beaches and WINE of the two countries that comprise the Iberian peninsula are unrivaled. In an Uncorked Events first, this spectacular celebration of wine will be held on a weekend night – Friday, May 18th to be exact. A perfect evening to get together with friends in the elegance of this San Francisco landmark before summer starts and everyone goes their own way.

THE DRAMATIC SETTING
We are thrilled to bring the Uncorked community for the first time to the grandeur of the stunning Fairmont Hotel high above Nob Hill. The storied Venetian Room, where Tony Bennett first sang ‘I Left My Heart In San Francisco’, provides the perfect backdrop for these wines of distinct history and undeniable quality. What better way to end a week of work than with over 125 of the finest wines from Spain and Portugal?

THE WINE
On the Spanish front, you will taste the bold and hearty reds of the Priorat and Ribera del Duero, the classic earthy reds from Rioja, cava from Penedès , as well as wines from up and coming regions like Jumilla, Toro, Rías Baixas and La Mancha. You will taste lots of Tempranillo – the legendary red grape of Spain, Monastrell (Mourvedre), Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnacha (Grenache), Carinena (Carignane), Albariño, Viura, along with an array of different styles of sherry.
When it comes to Portugal, you have probably tried their outstanding port – and you will try many on this evening. You may be less familiar with are their excellent non-port wines made from grapes like Alentejo or Bairrada, or Vinho Verde, along with wines made from traditional port varietals like Touriga Nacional and Tinto Roriz. Come experience a wide array of these little known gems that often are in the shadow of this Port empire.

THE EXTRAS
A live flamenco show with dancers and guitarists will perfectly complement the wines, while DJ Sol will spin flamenco-inspired grooves with a healthy dose of Spanish pop. Smartwater will also be on hand to keep you all re-hydrated. And what better way to keep the evening going with an unofficial after party at the legendary Tonga Room next door.

THE BOTTOM LINE
When a wine is extraordinary, Spaniards say “Beber este vino es como hablar con Dios” or “Tasting this wine is like talking with God”. We think you may just might concur by the end of the evening.

This year we’re adding a VIP preview entry option to enter a full hour before the main event starts with exclusive access to rare library and extremely limited production reserve wines at each of the tables during this time.
